International cooperation

Many students either study or work outside their native countries. The primary aim of the Bologna Process is to create greater mobility for students and graduates applying for jobs in Europe. For this reason it is important for higher education programmes in different countries to be comparable and to maintain stable standards. The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education plays an active role in international cooperation on the evaluation of higher education, in particular in Europe.

This cooperation mainly takes place within the framework of INQAAHE, International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education, and ENQA, The European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.

ENQA, The European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, is an organisation that has been assigned, within the framework of the Bologna Process, the task of developing mutually acceptable criteria and methods for quality assurance. At a Ministerial conference in Bergen, Norway, in May 2005 the participating countries agreed to adopt the standards and guidelines, drafted by ENQA, in consultation and co-operation with the EUA, ESU and EURASHE.

The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education also cooperates with the other Nordic countries within the framework of NOQA, Nordic Quality Assurance Network in Higher Education. This network's most recent project and report dealt with the joint evaluation/accreditation of Nordic Joint Master's Programmes.

Quality assurance register


In Brussels the representatives of four European organisations in the field of higher education have jointly launched what is called the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). This register is intended to raise standards in higher education inEuropeand provide greater mobility for students. The register is to contain clear and objective information about organisations working with quality appraisal.
