This report shows that supplementary education is concentrated mainly in a few major fields of education, such as teacher training and vocational courses in healthcare and veterinary medicine. The bulk of supplementary education to date has consisted of commissioned training programmes ordered by the Swedish National Labour Market Administration within the project known as Språnget (‘Leap Forward´, for unemployed immigrant graduates).
The report shows that the number of students in supplementary education fell during the third year of this project. The majority ? roughly 60 per cent ? of these students are women.
The National Agency for Higher Education is of the opinion that supplementary education should be arranged in the form of regular education to a greater extent, since this can be financially advantageous to society. It may also mean that foreign graduates educated in occupational fields other than those where shortages prevail can supplement their training, and also that these students´ legal status is strengthened.
