Renewed audit and evaluation of quality assurance procedures at Umeå University
Quality assurance procedures at Umeå University, in particular those arranged centrally, make a very positive impression. They are well-organised and systematic in the sense that activities are continually monitored and this monitoring leads to improvements. There is an awareness of the importance of ensuring that the organisation functions as a whole. Strategies for increased student influence and greater gender equality are being developed, and administrators at different levels are being trained to enable them to discharge their duties more effectively. Cooperation with the surrounding community is excellent. At the same time, the panel of assessors has discovered shortcomings. There are unjustifiably large differences between quality procedures in different sections of the university so that levels vary. Strategies and other regulatory documents adopted centrally do not always have any impact on the rest of the university. There is a risk that student influence will be no more than a formality and little success has been achieved in integrating the non-faculty staff. Internationalisation is not visible. Despite the gender equality endeavours the group of senior administrators consists nearly exclusively of men.
